In Greek, “Leucadia" means a sheltered place and this lovely coastal community truly lives up to its name. This tranquil area is famous for its giant Eucalyptus trees that line its main thoroughfare on Coast Highway and its wonderful, laid back atmosphere. Leucadia is located on Highway 101 on the north San Diego County coast. Heading south out of Carlsbad, it is the first beach community you'll encounter. Leucadia has a charm and character of its own: a tucked-away beach town with a funky atmosphere and some upscale homes. The many trees, lush landscaping, and tracts of vacant land create a relaxed, rural feeling.

Beaches are popular with surfers and residents alike, and everyone enjoys the dramatic views from the oceanfront bluffs. Looking out from its scenic Grandview Beach, you can clearly see the tall smoke stacks of Carlsbad to the north. As one of 5 communities within the City of Encinitas incorporated together in 1986, Leucadia retains a special character as a "Sleepy Hollow".
